A day in the life of the walrus... in trouble.

The other night I was sitting at my desk having a bit of wine and pouring over some of my predictions when I caught a bit of news on the plight of the walrus in Alaska. Back in my day, walruses liked to spend their time lounging on GIANT slabs of sea ice…just hanging around with their calves. When it was time to eat, a delicious fish dinner was just a frigid dip away. Ahhh, those were the days.

Oh…but now, it’s a very different story. The warming of the arctic waters has melted the sea ice forcing the walruses to go ashore. Normally living in groups of around 500, there is now an estimated 10,000-20,000 along the shore line…can you imagine that!?!?! The poor calves are extremely vulnerable to being trampled to death. And now that delicious fish dinner is even hard to come by. My prediction is bleak but there is a pretty good chance the Pacific walrus will be on the path to extinction by the end of this century.

Pesky Mosquitoes!

Err... I was up half the night last night bothered by an itchy bite that I got while enjoying a bit of night air. Seems those pesky mosquitoes are EVERYWHERE! The warmer temperatures caused by global warming has really made these suckers multiply like Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar! And now their even living longer! This increases our risk of catching a disease like Malaria, Dengue fever or West Nile Virus! We have tried to spray around this Old Papal Palace but have you seen the size of this place?! It costs more francs than Homer Simpson spends on Duff beer in a year... and let me tell you that's a lot!

The Code of ECCE

You've heard about them all before.. try this, try that...... I'm talking about Extreme Diets. Seems people now days will try anything! Most have very low food intake and quirky food limitations like fasting or near starvation, cabbage soup or juice diets and even taking dangerous diet pills. Why... some people have even went so extreme as to ingest tapeworms in an effort to lose weight…what a mess!

Here’s the deal…and it ain’t rocket science. If we didn't stuff ourselves with Slabdogs and Kochie Kreeme Donuts every other day, we wouldn't need to do these extreme diets. I predict an end to obesity and related illnesses by following the healthy eating principles of the code of ECCE ( Eat Carefully, Control Excess ).

Our World of Excess

I often see people overwhelmed by the problems our world is facing.  They think they could not possibly make a difference.  But the reality is we can have a big impact on the world by making simple changes to our daily lives.

As I sit here enjoying a hot cup of joe from my reusable mug I am reminded of Planet Satiety and how waste had a very negative affect on the people and the planet.  Before you grab your next cup of joe listen to this...

Over 40 million paper cups are used in the US alone every day for beverages like coffee... that's over 400,000 every 15 minutes and over 16 billion cups each year.  Over 6.5 million trees were cut down to make make those16 billion paper cups.  Plus, 16 billion paper cups uses 4 billion gallons of water and results in 253 million pounds of waste.  Every tree used for paper cups is also removed from the ecosystem and can no longer absorb carbon dioxide, produce oxygen or filter groundwater.

The environmental impact of a paper cup is staggering.  And where is all that trash going?!  Nearly half the landfills in the US are full.

Now give that a ponder!  Its a Globulate mandate of overindulgence if I ever heard one!  Now how can we do our part in helping Mother Earth?  It's what I call the 4-Rs... rethink, reduce, reuse and recycle!

Another Distastous Predition

Alas, yet again, as I predicted back in 1555, the Gulf oil spill which has spilled nearly 200 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, has come to fruition.

All eyes should still be focused on the Gulf as the disaster there is by no means over yet. We are dealing with contamination of the entire surface of the ocean all the way down to the very bottom of the sea floor as well as land and atmospheric contamination. The oceans are critical to maintaining the proper oxygen level in the atmosphere for human life.

Adding insult to injury is the dumping of 1.8 million gallons of a toxic stew of dangerous chemical into our oceans.

The truth is, we have not even begun to witness the after affects of what will linger for many years to come as the result of this mega disaster.

As the people learned in Planet Satiety, what was first thought of as a good idea to launch all the worlds trash into space does not come without dire and irrevocable consequenses. When will people learn to treat our world like Sir Rex did? Mother Earth is our life support.

I Predicted Big Fish...They Predict Polar Bears!

I've had to get a couple days of rest.  I've been so busy, I haven't been eating very well lately.  Just Monday night, I ate almost and ENTIRE Slabdog.  I know it isn't the best thing but they're just so darn convenient.  The recipe is in Planet Satiey...but I wouldn't recommend it!

During my time of rest, I was surfing the web to see which of my latest predictions, if any, are coming true.  Surfing the web is the easiest way to stay on top of all of this; I'm so grateful to Al Gore for inventing the Internet.  At any rate, I stumbled on something here.  Now I'm predicting that all the big-fish species could be gone just like I outlined in Planet Satiety.  But, in as little as 40 years, 2/3's of our planets polar bears could be gone.  Why?  Global Warming...that's why!  Found this article below that gives reasoning behind National Wildlife Federation's (NWF) prediction.  I'll post the article below, but remember...THIS IS NOT MY PREDICTION...this prediction belongs solely to NWF, but I can totally see this happening:

The chief threat to the polar bear is the loss of its sea ice habitat due to global warming. As suggested by its specific scientific name (Ursus maritimus), the polar bear is actually a marine mammal that spends far more time at sea than it does on land. It is on the Arctic ice that the polar bear makes its living, which is why global warming is such a serious threat to its well-being.

How are polar bears affected?
•Population sizes decreasing
•Sea ice platforms moving farther apart and swimming conditions more dangerous
•Fewer hunting opportunities and increased scarcity of food

As climate change melts sea ice, the U.S. Geological Survey projects that two thirds of polar bears will disappear by 2050. This dramatic decline in the polar bear is occurring in our lifetime, which is but a miniscule fraction of the time polar bears have roamed the vast Arctic seas.

Rapid Arctic ice melting in 2007:
•Caused a record low for the surface area of summer sea ice in the Arctic Ocean, nearly 23 percent below the previous record low in 2005.

•Melted an additional area equivalent to the size of Alaska and Texas, combined (compared to average sea ice conditions).

•Exceeded the projections of most climate-ice models. Based on the rapid melt, one NASA scientist projected summer ice could be essentially gone as early as 2012.

Population Size Declines
In southern portions of their range, like Hudson Bay, Canada, there is no sea ice during the summer, and the polar bears must live on land until the Bay freezes in the fall, whereupon they can again hunt on the ice. While on land during the summer, these bears eat little or nothing.

In just 20 years the ice-free period in Hudson Bay has increased by an average of 20 days, cutting short their seal hunting season by nearly three weeks. The ice is freezing later in the fall, but it is the earlier spring ice melt that is especially difficult for the bears. They have less time to hunt during the critical time when seal pups are born. As a result, average bear weight has dropped by 15 percent, causing reproduction rates to decline. The Hudson Bay population is down more than 20 percent.

Retreating Sea Ice Platforms
The retreat of ice has implications beyond the obvious habitat loss. Remaining ice is farther from shore, making it less accessible. The larger gap of open water between the ice and land also contributes to rougher wave conditions, making the bears’ swim from shore to sea ice more hazardous.

In 2004, biologists discovered four drowned polar bears in the Beaufort Sea, and suspect the actual number of drowned bears may have been considerably greater. Never before observed, biologists attributed the drowning to a combination of retreating ice and rougher seas.

Scarcity of Food
Exacerbating the problems of the loss of hunting areas, it is expected that the shrinking polar ice cap will also cause a decline in polar bears’ prey -- seals. The reduction in ice platforms near productive areas for the fish that the seals eat affects their nutritional status and reproduction rates.

Polar bears are going hungry for longer periods of time, resulting in cannibalistic behavior. Although it has long been known polar bears will kill for dominance or kill cubs so they can breed with the female, outright predation for food was previously unobserved by biologists.

Polar Bear Status
In 2007, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service proposed to list the polar bear as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act primarily because of the decline of its primary habitat: sea ice. The Secretary of Interior listed the polar bear as threatened but restricted the Endangered Species Act's protections and thus the polar bear's future is still very much in jeopardy.

The polar bear is the proverbial "canary in the coal mine" of the serious threat global warming posses to wildlife species around the world, unless we take immediate and significant action to reduce global warming pollution.

Hubble Turns 20!

Well, today is the 20th anniversary of NASA's launch of the Hubble Space telescope.  WOW...20 years!  I remember it just like it was yesterday.  I know this "Hubble" has done some pretty amazing things like capturing images of far away galaxies, nebulas, and dying stars...not to mention the worlds first shot of Paris Hilton's hot tub from space!  But folks, I have some grim news.  My prediction has it that the Hubble XL...in the 22nd century...captures something far more astonishing.  Over a few glasses a wine and several smokes...I've created this image for you:

This my friends, are the Rings of Glutton.  This is the result of our governments plans to fire our trash into space...where it was supposed to burn up - poof...gone!  But as you see, this plan will go haywire.  It doesn't have to be this way you know.  With your help, you can do your part to change this.  But, you need to be well-informed and well-prepared.  Read Planet Satiety to learn more about the Rings of Glutton and all the other mess that faces us in the 22nd century.  To learn more...or buy your copy of Planet Satiety, visit us at http://www.planetsatiety.com/.

-Ciao!
