Our World of Excess

I often see people overwhelmed by the problems our world is facing.  They think they could not possibly make a difference.  But the reality is we can have a big impact on the world by making simple changes to our daily lives.


As I sit here enjoying a hot cup of joe from my reusable mug I am reminded of Planet Satiety and how waste had a very negative affect on the people and the planet.  Before you grab your next cup of joe listen to this...

Over 40 million paper cups are used in the US alone every day for beverages like coffee... that's over 400,000 every 15 minutes and over 16 billion cups each year.  Over 6.5 million trees were cut down to make make those16 billion paper cups.  Plus, 16 billion paper cups uses 4 billion gallons of water and results in 253 million pounds of waste.  Every tree used for paper cups is also removed from the ecosystem and can no longer absorb carbon dioxide, produce oxygen or filter groundwater.

The environmental impact of a paper cup is staggering.  And where is all that trash going?!  Nearly half the landfills in the US are full.

Now give that a ponder!  Its a Globulate mandate of overindulgence if I ever heard one!  Now how can we do our part in helping Mother Earth?  It's what I call the 4-Rs... rethink, reduce, reuse and recycle!
