A day in the life of the walrus... in trouble.

The other night I was sitting at my desk having a bit of wine and pouring over some of my predictions when I caught a bit of news on the plight of the walrus in Alaska. Back in my day, walruses liked to spend their time lounging on GIANT slabs of sea ice…just hanging around with their calves. When it was time to eat, a delicious fish dinner was just a frigid dip away. Ahhh, those were the days.

Oh…but now, it’s a very different story. The warming of the arctic waters has melted the sea ice forcing the walruses to go ashore. Normally living in groups of around 500, there is now an estimated 10,000-20,000 along the shore line…can you imagine that!?!?! The poor calves are extremely vulnerable to being trampled to death. And now that delicious fish dinner is even hard to come by. My prediction is bleak but there is a pretty good chance the Pacific walrus will be on the path to extinction by the end of this century.
